Teacher guide: Koa in your lesson
- Before the lesson: open pinkoa.com/class on the classroom computer, type your class name (for example “Class 8b · Maths”) and tap ⚙ Set up to choose focus length, break length and number of rounds. 20 minutes of focus and 3-minute breaks, 3 rounds, take 66 minutes.
- Put it on the projector: press F (or the Full screen button), then Space to start. Koa reads along quietly while the class works.
- Breaks run themselves: when a round ends, a brain break card appears for the whole class: a koala stretch, a breathing break, a Finnish word, a riddle, a doodle, an eye break or a quick tidy-up. The next round starts on its own.
Tips
- Set a weekly class goal, for example 10 focus rounds. When the class reaches it, download the class card for your wall or the parents' newsletter.
- Every movement card works sitting down. Nobody has to stand up.
- Riddles show the answer halfway through the break, so nobody needs to shout it out.
- Bright room? Switch on “Dark board” in Set up. The chime is off until you switch it on.
- Several classes? Type a different class name. Each class keeps its own goal and streak in this browser.
- Shortcuts: Space = start / pause, F = full screen, N = next break card.
More free classroom material: free classroom focus kit. Pinkoa is Finnish for “to run fast”, and in student slang “to study hard”.
