A pink Halloween study desk: 7 cosy, cheap ideas (Koa-approved)

Koa the pink koala with Puce pink, shade of the day no. 23

Dark evenings are here, and Koa has decided that her desk deserves a little Halloween glow-up. Not scary, not orange overload: just pink, cosy and calm enough to actually study at. Here is her setup, almost all of it free or already in your room.

1. Start with a clear desk

Before you add anything spooky, take everything off the desk that you will not need this week. Old worksheets go in one folder, pens go in one cup. A clear surface makes the next study session easier to start, and the decorations look better too.

2. One soft light instead of the big ceiling lamp

A small desk lamp with a warm bulb, or a string of fairy lights along the shelf, instantly makes October evenings feel cosier. Keep your work area itself well lit so you are not squinting at your notes. Real candles and paper decorations do not mix, so Koa uses a battery tea light inside a paper pumpkin.

3. Pink pumpkins, ghosts and bats (printable)

Koa's pink Halloween printables are free until 31 October: a wall art set with friendly ghosts, bats and pumpkins, spooky reading bookmarks and Halloween wallpapers for your phone and laptop. Print two or three, tape them above the desk, and you are done in five minutes. The Koa study words poster is free too, if you want something that stays up after Halloween.

4. A tiny "done" pumpkin

Put a small bowl or a paper pumpkin on the corner of the desk. Every time you finish a study round, drop in a sweet, a sticker or a folded note with what you finished. By Friday you can see your week in one glance.

5. The spooky-cosy soundtrack

Rain, a crackling fire or a quiet library: pick one calm background sound and keep it for the whole session. We collected ideas in spooky-cosy study sounds, and the free Pinkoa study timer has calm sounds built in.

6. A mug that matches

A warm drink is part of every good October study night. Koa's current favourite is the Night Owl? Night Koala. bat mug, but any mug you love works.

7. Make it Finnish (a little)

Finland has its own autumn festival before Halloween, Kekri, with turnip lanterns and a sauna for the ghosts. If you want a story to tell your study group, read Koa's Kekri post. And the shop's name is Finnish too: pinkoa means "to run fast", and in student slang "to study hard".

Shade of the day: no. 23 Puce

Puce (#CC8899) is a soft, greyish pink with a touch of mauve, perfect next to dark Halloween colours. It pairs well with navy, turquoise and lilac.
